Untamed songs that remain vibrant: with his long-player Serpentine Prison, Matt Berninger, frontman of The National, has dropped his first solo album. It's more acoustic than the Brooklyn indie rockers are usually known for. In a dignified club atmosphere – this is Berninger's first solo performance in Switzerland – we get close to the idiosyncratic poetry and distinctive voice of this artist. Matt Berninger told the Guardian that he's composed some pretty tender songs, and that this was something out of the ordinary for him, as he's otherwise constantly picking himself apart. While he was writing, he felt drawn to music that had a self-soothing effect. He wanted to write songs to be there for other people.
